Cortona: Dine, Golf, & Tan All in One Backyard Living Space
The Cortona is Thursday Pools’ sunken living area design: a recessed platform built into the pool perimeter where you sit surrounded by water without getting wet. It’s a distinct structural concept, not a standard tanning ledge. The “tan” referenced in the heading refers to an optional tanning platform accessory that can be placed over the sunken living area. The Cortona itself doesn’t include a built-in tanning ledge. That sunken space can also be configured as a swim-up bar, a living room seating area, or a dining platform. That’s where the Dine, Golf, and Tan positioning comes from.

Pool permitting:
You must visit your local government agency for permitting. All permits are submitted by the owner, and inspections are coordinated by the contractor. Questions to ask your local agency include:
- Does the pool require an engineer?
- Does it require a topographical survey or grading survey?
- Does the local agency require a water management system? If impervious coverage applies, what are the guidelines? What percentage of impervious coverage is currently being used?
- What are the property setbacks (front, back, left, right, and from any permitted structures)?
- If the property has a septic system, what are the guidelines?
- If the property has above-ground power lines, what are the guidelines?
