In-Ground Spa Configuration Options
In-ground spas can be installed as standalone units or paired alongside an existing pool, whichever fits your backyard and your budget. When you add a spa next to a pool, you have two configuration choices. A flush installation sits at deck level; a spillover model is elevated so water cascades into the pool. Spillover spas share a common water supply with the pool, while non-spillover models maintain a separate supply and can be heated independently, so you can run the spa at a different temperature than the pool.
Shape options include octagon, round, kidney, and rectangle configurations. Pennsylvania’s four seasons also mean an inground spa earns its place year-round, not just during summer months, and is commonly used for relaxation and muscle relief through fall and winter when a pool sits covered.

A spa installation from Desmond Pools & Spas doesn’t end when the crew packs up. We’re a true one-stop shop, which means you won’t need to track down a separate service company once your project is done. Our team handles maintenance year-round, including pool openings and closings, vinyl liner replacement, pool covers, and general repair and maintenance for pools and hot tubs.
Every spa we install is built around equipment that’s designed to work together. We carry the Totally Hayward System: pumps, filters, heaters, heat pumps, automatic pool cleaners, lighting, controls, and salt chlorine generators engineered as one integrated system. Most products and accessories we stock come with extensive warranties, and select spa purchases include on-site water testing, as well as offers like free filter upgrades and solar covers. Pool covers, chemicals, pumps, and filters are stocked at our Wind Gap location so you can get what you need when you need it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add a spa to my existing pool?
Yes. A spa can be added alongside an existing inground pool and installed either flush with the deck or elevated as a spillover unit. We can assess your current setup during the in-home consultation and walk you through which configuration fits your space.
Will my spa share water with my pool?
That depends on the configuration you choose. Spillover models share a common water supply with the pool. Non-spillover models use a separate supply and can be heated independently, so your spa can run at a different temperature than the pool. We can explain both options and help you pick the one that fits how you plan to use each.
What’s the difference between a portable hot tub and an in-ground spa?
A portable hot tub is a self-contained above-ground unit that can be placed on a deck or patio and plugged in. An inground spa is installed in the ground, typically as a standalone unit or alongside an inground pool, and is built into your landscape the same way a pool is. Installation, equipment, and longevity differ significantly between the two.
