Choosing the Right Above-Ground Pool for Your Yard

Our above-ground pool lineup is organized into four size tiers: Small, Medium, Large, and Jumbo, spanning widths from 9 feet to 18 feet and lengths from 15 feet to 44 feet. That range means there’s a workable option whether you’re fitting a compact patio space or filling a generous backyard. Every model includes bench seating; select models add built-in tanning ledges or bucket seats for more lounging flexibility.

Style shapes how the pool feels in your yard and how you use it. Free-form pools follow a natural, irregular outline that suits less rectangular spaces and creates a resort-style look. Roman-style pools feature softly curved ends that echo classic pool aesthetics and open up more usable shallow-end room. Natural-style pools blend organic shapes with practical features like tanning ledges. Rectangle pools maximize usable swim length and work well for larger families or anyone who wants room to move.

Bottom configuration is worth understanding before you decide. Flat-bottom pools hold constant depth throughout, which is a comfortable choice for families with young children. Gradual-slope bottoms transition from a shallow end to a deeper end, similar to a traditional in-ground pool experience. Hopper bottoms drop more steeply to a central low point, reaching greater depths in a smaller footprint. Transitional bottoms offer a middle path between gradual slope and hopper. Entry steps vary by model as well: left, right, or end entry, giving you flexibility in how the pool positions within your yard.

A spa or tanning ledge turns a seasonal pool setup into a year-round backyard destination. Attached spas can stay in use well into the colder months after the main pool is closed, while a tanning ledge adds a shallow sun-soaking platform that’s especially popular with younger swimmers. Pool Maintenance & Support

Buying your pool from Desmond Pools & Spas means you have the same team available when you need service. We handle pool openings and closings each season, vinyl liner replacement, pool covers, and general repair and maintenance for both pools and hot tubs. Pennsylvania winters require a proper closing to protect your liner and equipment from freezing temperatures, and we take care of that the same way we take care of everything else: as part of an ongoing relationship, not a one-time transaction.

Select purchases include on-site water testing, along with offers like free filter upgrades and solar covers. Keeping water chemistry balanced (pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels all in range) protects your vinyl liner and extends the life of your filtration equipment, and we make it easy to stay on top of that. Our location stocks above-ground and in-ground pool liners, solar covers, safety covers, chemicals, pumps, and filters, so you won’t need to track down parts from a separate supplier.

For equipment, we carry the Totally Hayward System: pumps, filters, heaters, heat pumps, automatic cleaners, lighting, controls, and salt chlorine generators built to work as one integrated system. We also stock Unicel filter replacement cartridges and run ProTeam vacuums on our maintenance calls. The products and accessories we carry come with extensive warranties on most items from the brands we stock.
